TBK file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the TBK files comes to the following conclusion:
The TBK file ending covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all TBK files belong to Asymetrix ToolBook application. The files are using the common file format EXE. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 1 MB. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as !This program cannot be run in DOS mode. The following filename is common: Ex1.tbk. Files like these are about reorder.
- 25% of all TBK files are associated with Asymetrix ToolBook. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 280 KB to 11 MB. The file name BIOCHEM1.TBK or pphome.tbk is typical for these files.
The remaining 30% of all TBK files are files with no common format. The category is backup. If you want to find out which format your TBK file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .tbk file to analyze".
