What is a UPD file?

UPD files mostly belong to Notepad by Microsoft. A UPD file contains information about a program update. A plain text editor can read such information. UPD is also the filename extension of the actual update package of programs such as dBASE database management system. The firmware update of various electronic equipment are saved in UPD files. How to open UPD files

You need a suitable software like Notepad to open a UPD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
