Opening VTS Files
The VTS file type is primarily associated with Excel/ParaView.
What is a VTS file?
For example, some VTS files use a Microsoft Compound structure to store simulation data. In these cases the files are known as Virtual Test System files and may contain results such as Aspen Plus simulation data or be used with tools like VTune Amplifier.
Other VTS files serve as spreadsheet templates. These are used by applications like Kingsoft Spreadsheets and are compatible with programs such as Microsoft Excel. You can learn more about Microsoft 365 at this webpage.
There are also VTS files that use an XML format to store structured grid data. Such files are typically employed in visualization tasks by software like ParaView. More details are available at ParaView.

How to open a VTS file
You need a suitable software like Excel/ParaView to open a VTS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VTS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VTS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert VTS files:
- Excel/ParaView
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. VTS files are often referred to as Excel/ParaView data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ParaView (VTK Structured Grid) by Kitware, Inc.ParaView is an application designed with the need to visualize large data sets in mind. ParaView is available as an open-source system. ParaView is a turn-key visualization system built on top of VTK that makes VTK easier to use with a point and click interface. VTS file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the VTS files looks like this:
The VTS file extension includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all VTS files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The globally unique identifier of this file type is 00020810-0000-0000-c000-000000000046. The file contains sections that are named something like Book. VTS files can be up to 10 MB in size, but are often around 22 KB - 430 KB. The file type is relatively new. The following filename is common: Results.vts. Such VTS files store data about countercurrent, plates and group.
- 15% of all VTS files have the same signature 09 00. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 4 KB to 230 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Arial1. Files like these are about book.
All other VTS files (55%) have different formats, the following 6 formats exist: ParaView VTK Structured grid, Visual Tools Spreadsheet, ZIP and JetDB. These files sometimes refer to step, task or vehicles. You can get all the details of your VTS file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .vts file to analyze" above.

a vts data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with VTS files
- Associate the VTS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest VTS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Excel/ParaView update.
- To make sure that your VTS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VTS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
