What is an XY file?

XY files mostly belong to Fluent by Ansys. An XY file is a plot containing x/y coordinates used for axial/mean velocity, skin friction coefficient, and wall shear stress in Fluent fluid simulation software. Another type of XY file is a datasheet created by Prodigy data acquisition and experiment control software. Numeric computing environments such as MATLAB use coordinates saved in an XY file.

How can I open an XY file?

You need a suitable software like Fluent to open an XY file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
