What is a ZDL file?

ZDL files mostly belong to Design & Print by Avery. A ZDL file is a label designed using DesignPro product label design and printing software developed by Avery. DesignPro has been discontinued and replaced by Design & Print. Users can import, render, and print a ZDL file. However, Design & Print cannot save designs in ZDL format so, the format is essentially obsolete. To further edit the label design saved in a ZDL file, a user needs to open the file with Design & Print and save it as an AVERY file.

How to open a ZDL file

You need a suitable software like Design & Print from Avery to open a ZDL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ZDL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ZDL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ZDL file extension format:

To find out what program is needed to open ZDL files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the ZDL files is as follows:

ZDL is not a commonly used file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in ZDL files:

All other ZDL files (5%) have different formats. If you want to find out what your ZDL file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with ZDL files

  • Associate the ZDL file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open label designs. Because only the current version supports the latest ZDL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Avery manufacturer website after an available Design & Print update.
  • To make sure that your ZDL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
