All about AP Files
The AP file type is primarily associated with ArtPro.
What is an AP file?
How to open AP files
You need a suitable software like ArtPro to open an AP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your AP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a AP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

AP file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our examination of the AP files comes to the following conclusion:
The AP file extension is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in AP files:
- 20% of all AP files start with the magic bytes ArtW , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 310 KB to 2 MB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. The files contain the following words: ArtW, " id="W5M0MpCehiHzreSzNTczkc9d"?>, <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf="http://www.w3.org, <x:xmpmeta xmlns:x="adobe:ns:meta/" x:xmptk="XMP Core 5.1.2"> and <?xpacket begin=".
- 20% of all AP files use the ZIP algorithm, that is, an AP file includes multiple compressed files. The 8 to 142 compressed files are called _.sbn, _.sbn.MD5 and \Scenery\. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. Most of these files are 3 MB to 1 GB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Audio/PK, Audio/Markers/PK, Audio/Markers/SoundEmitter.GeoPcDxSERZ and LODCon. The file name Class801Pack01Assets.ap is characteristic of these files.
All other AP files (60%) have no consistent format, the following 7 formats exist: HDR. These files are often connected to synnex. Just click the "Choose your .ap file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your AP file is.

How to solve problems with AP files
- Associate the AP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open documents. Because only the current version supports the latest AP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Esko manufacturer website after an available ArtPro update.
- To make sure that your AP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .AP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
