Opening an AGX File

AGX files are a multi-use file type that serve different functions depending on their internal format. They are not a single standard format but can be found in several specialized applications.
For example, some AGX files use the Microsoft Compound format to store label design data for label printing systems. In other cases, the files are XML-based and are used for animation graphs in game development, for instance within CryENGINE Sandbox Editor (CryEngine website).
Another variant is used in CAD/CAM environments where the file holds geometry data (known as Amada Graph eXchange) and is handled by Alphacam tools (Hexagon website). Additionally, some AGX files are encoded in JSON and carry sensor measurements such as air quality or exposure data, which are viewed with specialized AGX viewing applications.
Using a simple text editor to open an AGX file can reveal if it contains human-readable XML or JSON, guiding you to the appropriate application for viewing and editing its contents.
