What is an ASL file?

ASL files mostly belong to Photoshop by Adobe. ASL stands for Adobe Photoshop Style. It is the file extension used by layer style files in Adobe Photoshop, a raster graphics editing software. A layer style consists of one or more visual effects (such as color overlay, gradient overlay, drop shadow, stroke, bevel etc.) that can be applied to layers on a Photoshop project. Photoshop includes preset layer styles and also allows users to create their own custom styles. Once saved, these styles can be accessed for use in other files, allowing users to not only back up their own styles but also share styles with others so they can import them into Photoshop for their own projects. Saving layer styles also allows users to easily replicate the style over a batch of images instead of repeating the steps. A saved layer style is treated by the application as a preset style. Layer styles can be saved, imported and exported via the Styles panel in Photoshop.

How can I open an ASL file?

You need a suitable software like Photoshop to open an ASL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ASL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ASL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
