Opening a BC File
The BC file type is primarily associated with BitComet.
What is a BC file?
- Main Use: BC is an acronym of the BitComet data file. Incomplete file downloads that are in progress or paused by the user from the BitComet torrenting application are temporarily appended with BC file extension. BC files will not play properly even if they are opened with the standard application as long as the download is not complete. After the file has finished downloading, BitComet converts the BC file to the source file which can then be opened using the standard application for that extension.
- Other Uses: BC file extension is also used to store cache data by the Adobe Bridge program that manages Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) applications. It is not possible to open these BC files manually. They are automatically created by the Adobe Bridge for storing metadata as the user browses through the images. Users can opt for storing the BC cache files in a single fixed location or in the current folder that is being browsed. These BC files are helpful to present a quick summary of image data and they are named "Adobe Bridge Cache.bc".
How can I open a BC file?
You need a suitable software like BitComet to open a BC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BC file extension format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the BC files produces the following result:
BC is rarely used as a file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in BC files are:
- 45% of all BC files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "bc01" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 88 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: PKCS7, algorithm, cipher, keySize, mode, padding, false, enabled, blockSize, artifact and header. Files like these are about xlsx and docx, and have often person-related content.
- 8% of all BC files are LLVM IR Bitcode files. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 4 KB to 250 KB. An example of a file name is baby.bc.
The remaining 47% of all BC files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, XML and PAGEZERO. The category is microsoft, compact or server. If you want to find out which format your BC file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .bc file to analyze".
