What is a BIO file?

BIO files mostly belong to Fallout by Bethesda. A file with BIO extension is usually a highly optimized 3D image created using Autodesk's Mudbox, a cross-platform software for sculpting and painting highly detailed 3-dimensional objects and textures. Another common use case of BIO filename extension is with game data. Many computer and PS2 games like Fallout and Baldur's Gate store biographies of game characters in BIO files. On IBM's OS/2 operating systems, BIO files were used to store BIOS and hardware settings that were used to load connected hardware during booting. In the past, BioArc used the BIO file extension to create compressed archives on Windows computers.

How to open BIO files

You need a suitable software like Fallout to open a BIO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BIO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BIO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BIO file format details:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. In the following you will find our evaluation of the BIO files:

BIO is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
