What is a BIZ file?
How to open a BIZ file
You need a suitable software like Print Shop to open a BIZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BIZ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BIZ file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BIZ file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the BIZ files:
BIZ is seldom used as a file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in BIZ files:
- 60% of all BIZ files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The file contains sections that are named something like Contents and PMW Document. BIZ files can be up to 5 MB in size, but are often around 19 KB - 2 MB. This is an old file type which is rarely used today. Such files are related to card, business and cards, and usually contain person-related data.
- 10% of all BIZ files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are 420 bytes to 15 KB in size, with a median of 2 KB. Examples of file names are Waage1_20180601.biz.
The remaining 30% of all BIZ files are files with no common format. Just click the "Choose your .biz file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your BIZ file is.

How to solve problems with BIZ files
- Associate the BIZ file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open business card projects. Because only the current version supports the latest BIZ file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Broderbund manufacturer website after an available Print Shop update.
- To make sure that your BIZ file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BIZ file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
