Opening a CLK File
The CLK file type is primarily associated with Mimecast.
What is a CLK file?
Encrypted or Cloaked Files: These files are used to secure email data. Managed by Mimecast, the file is often renamed to hide its true nature. This adds a layer of security to email communications.
CorelDRAW Image Files: In some cases, CLK files store drawing data using the RIFF format. Such files are part of CorelDRAW projects, and you can find more on the CorelDRAW website.
Clickforms Report Files: Other CLK files serve as report files, holding appraisal or form data associated with Clickforms.
Apple Watch Face Files: A variant of CLK files uses JSON formatting to store smartwatch face configurations. These are used by Clockology to design Apple Watch faces. More information for encrypted files is available on the Mimecast website.
- Encrypted/Cloaked File – Secures email data with hidden file details.
- Image File – Contains drawing information in a RIFF structure.
- Report File – Holds appraisal or form data.
- Smartwatch Face File – Stores configuration in JSON for watch displays.

CLK file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the CLK files produces the following result:
The CLK file type is a very commonly used file extension and mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in CLK files:
- 75% of all CLK files are WatchGuard cloaked data files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 180 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 7 MB. This file type is new and state-of-the-art. The following keywords are characteristic: This file has been cloaked. The original message may be retrieved by, XORing each byte with 42, content-type, filename and application. A usual file name is wgrd_deny_00000000.clk. Files like these are sometimes connected to deny, wgrd and attachment.
- 9% of all CLK files are Corel R.A.V files, which are using the popular RIFF file format. RIFF files store data in tagged chunks. There are primarily used to store multimedia such as sound and video. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 19 KB and 10 MB in size. The keywords CARCvrsn, DISP,( and RIFF are typical for these files.
The remaining 16% of all CLK files are files with no common format, the following 4 formats exist: ClickFORMS data and JSON. Files like these are sometimes linked to casio, backup or nasa. If you want to find out which format your CLK file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .clk file to analyze".
