What is a CRW file?

CRW files mostly belong to Digital Photo Professional by Canon. CRW filename extension is mainly associated with high-resolution photographs saved in the Camera Image File Format (CIFF) developed by Canon. The format is often called Canon RAW format and it is the native format for saving RAW images captured by older, x86-based digital cameras manufactured by Canon. All SLRs and high-end compact cameras in the EOS and PowerShot series save RAW (uncompressed) images in CRW files. A RAW image is basically graphical data as captured (without compression) by the CCD detector of a camera. Digital Photo Professional, Photoshop, and ACDSee Photo Studio can be used to view CR3 images. CRW is also the filename extension of terrain drawings created with CADrail railroad modeling software. CHARTrunner SPC analysis and statistical process control chart generation software, saves workspace definitions in CRW files. The contents of such CRW files are written in XML format.

How do you open CRW files?

You need a suitable software like Digital Photo Professional to open a CRW file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
