All about CTM Files
The CTM file type is primarily associated with Crazy Talk.
What is a CTM file?
- Main Use: CTM files are used by the Star Wars Republic Commando game to store game data generated while running the game using the Unreal Engine. This stored game data includes details pertaining to game level information such as buildings, terrains, barriers, spawn points, and other items. User-created custom maps are also stored as CTM files.
- Other Uses: CTM files are also found amongst the files used in the CrazyTalk program developed by Reallusion. CrazyTalk application makes it possible for the users to create speaking character animations across from 2D images. These character animations include categories such as photo faces, cartoon faces, 3D faces, animal faces, and inanimate objects. The CTM files used by this program consist of the base image, background data, and rigging-related settings (specifications input by the user that contain facial feature location data). Apart from CrazyTalk, Reallusion's Live! Cam Avatar Creator application can also be used to create animated speaking characters and edit previously created CTM files. Live! Cam Avatar Creator programs can be run on Microsoft Windows PCs while the latest CrazyTalk 8 application can be installed on both Windows and macOS systems.

CTM file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the CTM files:
The CTM file extension includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all CTM files belong to OpenCTM 3D mesh. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 2 MB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. OCTM, r9aQ, MG2H and VERT. A common filename is Aegis Sabre.ctm or AegisSabre.ctm. Files like these have the following tags: aegis, sabre, crusader, cutlass, starrunner, mercury, black, constellation, hornet, anvil and 3D model.
- 25% of all CTM files have the same signature CTM. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The file size is in the range of 48 KB to 4 MB. A usual file name is 1.ctm. Files like these are about pokemon.
All other CTM files (25%) have different formats, the following 3 formats can be found: endoftext. These files are often connected to ctmpl, origin, aquila, super, explorer, cutlassblack, defender, carrack, gladius, khartu or aopoa. If you want to find out which format your CTM file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ctm file to analyze".
