What is a DI file?

DI files mostly belong to Papyrus. DI files can serve two distinct roles depending on their internal makeup.
These files are XML-based diagram files. They store diagram information in a structured, text-based format and are used in modeling tools such as Papyrus. This format supports the exchange of diagram data including shapes, connectors, and properties. You can view more information about this usage at Papyrus.
In other cases, DI files are TIFF-based image files associated with Wang Imaging technology. These files store image data in a format derived from the TIFF structure.
When working with a DI file, consider these points:
  • If the file contains XML tags and a clear structure, it is likely a diagram file used for data interchange in modeling environments.
  • If the file appears in binary form typical of TIFF images, use an image viewer with TIFF support.
  • Check the file content to determine the correct application needed to open or edit it.
  • How to open DI files

You need a suitable software like Papyrus to open a DI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to solve problems with DI files

    • Associate the DI file extension with the correct application.
    • Update your software that should actually open diagram files. Because only the current version supports the latest DI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Papyrus update.
    • To make sure that your DI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
