What is a DOTM file?

DOTM files mostly belong to Word by Microsoft. A DOTM file is a macro-enabled document template created with the 2007 and higher versions of Word document processor. It contains a template with customizable user interface elements such as text fields, layouts, hyperlinks, and images. The DOTM file is actually a ZIP-compressed archive saved in OpenXML format. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). DOTM files contain an app name Microsoft Office Word. The unique Windows component object identifier is f4754c9b-64f5-4b40-8af4-679732ac0607. The file contains sections that are named something like SummaryInformation, 1Table, CompObj, DocumentSummaryInformation and WordDocument. DOTM files are between 35 KB and 46 KB in size.
