Opening a DSA File

The DSA file type is primarily associated with OpenSSL.

What is a DSA file

DSA files mostly belong to OpenSSL by NIST. DSA is a script format used to store scripts that are written in DAZ Studio version 3 unlike earlier versions that used the DS file format. A DSA file consists of ASCII characters that specify the behavior, tasks, or extensions for a 3D model. Users can also automate modelling tasks through the instructions defined therein. A DSA file is essentially a plain text file containing source code that can be modified from within any text editor. It's use in DAZ Studio is now deprecated and DUF is used instead. A second use of the DSA file format is in cyber-security where it's interpreted as Digital Signature Algorithm. These second type of DSA files are cPublic-Key Cryptography Standard 7 Signature that OpenSSL (a software library that provide secure communication) uses to sign and/or encrypt messages.

How can I open a DSA file?

You need a suitable software like OpenSSL to open a DSA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DSA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DSA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DSA files:

  1. OpenSSL by NIST
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DSA files are often referred to as OpenSSL encodeds because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. DASYLab
DASYLab is a Windows-based application software used to create graphical user interfaces and for data aquisition/analysis. Program worksheets created in DASYLab contain ASCII-formatted text and they are stored in DASYLab ASCII Files (DSA). This file format is classified as Spreadsheet. Related links: , DSF vs DSA file
  3. DAZ Studio (3D model script) by DAZ
DAZ Studio is a 3D graphics modelling/rendering tool primarily used to create 3D human figures, game characters, lighting, landscapes and much more. It is available for Windows and Mac, and the script that controls changes and morphs in a DAZ animations or model are saved in a DSA file. This file format is classified as 3D Image. DSA file format details:

If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the DSA files looks like this:

DSA is seldom used as a file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:

All other DSA files (32%) have different formats, often e.g. ZIP, SQL and ProDataStore. If you want to find out which format your DSA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .dsa file to analyze".

a dsa PKCS7 Signature is a special file format by NIST and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with DSA files

  • Associate the DSA file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open pkcs7 signatures. Because only the current version supports the latest DSA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the NIST manufacturer website after an available OpenSSL update.
  • To make sure that your DSA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .DSA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
