Opening EFS Files
The EFS file type is primarily associated with eSignal.
What is an EFS file
How to open an EFS file
You need a suitable software like eSignal to open an EFS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EFS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EFS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EFS files:
- eSignal by Intercontinental Exchange
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EFS files are often referred to as eSignal developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Awave Studio (instrument sample) by FMJAwave Studio is an audio editing software that can import, play, and edit audio data from most sources. It can be used to play instrument samples and audio data saved in the EFS format used by the discontinued Ensoniq SQ80 synthesizer. This file format is classified as Audio.
- EasyFlow (diagram) by IBMEasyflow is a discontinued, DOS-based technical drawing software for creating flowcharts, business process models, etc. The program saved diagrams in an EFS file. This file format is classified as CAD.
EFS format details:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the EFS files:
EFS is not a commonly used file extension and includes very many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all EFS files start with the magic bytes 10 00 4C FF, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 20 MB in size and range from 10 MB to 38 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. QSSL_F3S and AddBin. efs-system.efs or efs_HBpersistence.efs is a typical file name. These files are attributed to system and hbpersistence.
- 15% of all EFS files have the same signature 61 5C 04 05 14 41 01 00 FE. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. EFS files can be up to 9 MB in size, but are often around 3 MB - 6 MB. Some examples of file names are efs_2020-06-01 10-30.efs.
All other EFS files (70%) have no consistent format, such as certificate, Source, eSignalEncryptedScript and EFS. Tagged as firmado, encrypted, customatr or retailpos. Just click the "Choose your .efs file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your EFS file is.
Technical Data for EFS File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\efs\search.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\eSignal\winsig.exe
an efs formula script is a special file format by Intercontinental Exchange and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with EFS files
- Associate the EFS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open formula scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest EFS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Intercontinental Exchange manufacturer website after an available eSignal update.
- To make sure that your EFS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
