What is a GBS file?

GBS files mostly belong to Deflemask.

• Gerber Bottom Soldermask: In many cases, GBS files hold data for PCB production. They define the solder mask for the bottom layer of a circuit board and are used with design software such as Altium Designer or tools like GerberView.
  
• Game Bitmap Skin: A minor group of GBS files are used in game development to store bitmap skin data. These files are associated with environments like GameMaker Studio and may sometimes be referenced as Game Boy sound files.

How to open a GBS file

Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the GBS files comes to the following conclusion:

GBS is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in GBS files are:

• 40% of all GBS files belong to GameBoy Sound System dump. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 22 KB with most files being between 6 KB and 47 KB in size. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: Reese K. Baylor. Files like these have the following tags: titrs, gabba and song.
• 20% of all GBS files use the same file format, which have the signature G04. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 980 bytes to 16 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. G04 Gerber Generator version 0.2*, G04 Layer: BottomSolderMaskLayer, G04 EasyEDA v6 and G04 Scale. Examples of file names are Gerber_BottomSolderMaskLayer.GBS. Files like these are sometimes connected to mask, bottom, gerber, solder and layer.
