Opening a GCP File
The GCP file type is primarily associated with Greeting Card Studio.
What is a GCP file?
When you open a GCP file, you will find elements such as:
How to open GCP files
You need a suitable software like Greeting Card Studio to open a GCP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GCP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GCP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GCP files:
- Greeting Card Studio
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GCP files are often referred to as Greeting Card Studio page layouts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Ground Control Point FileGround Control Point file used in image processing of remote sensing data often to form map projections. CHIPS (CopenHagen Image Processing System) uses these files.
- Spectramap (Group Properties) by Coloritto BVSpectramap is a menu-driven, data analysis and interpretation aid, with special emphasis on 2D & 3D graphical presentation of tables for business intelligence and datawarehousing purposes.
GCP file format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the GCP files looks like this:
GCP is not a commonly used file extension and includes very many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all GCP files internally use the ZIP format, i.e. a GCP file contains several compressed files. Most often they are 1 to 9 compressed files. File names are e.g. 1.jpg, index.xml and thumb.jpg. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The average file size is 170 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 1 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 2.jpg and index.xml. Such files sometimes refer to karte and weihnachten, and almost always comprise personal data.
- 5% of all GCP files start with the bytes cpf001 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. GCP files are between 4 MB and 70 MB in size.
All other GCP files (75%) have no consistent format. Tagged as music, spch, common, sound, world, gallery, points, sector, timmy, face, fetm or paks. If you want to find out which format your GCP file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .gcp file to analyze".

a gcp project file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GCP files
- Associate the GCP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open project files. Because only the current version supports the latest GCP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Greeting Card Studio update.
- To make sure that your GCP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GCP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
