Opening GI Files
The GI file type is primarily associated with Sony CD Extreme.
What is a GI file?
How to open a GI file
You need a suitable software like Sony CD Extreme to open a GI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

GI file format:
To find out what program is needed to open GI files, you need to determine the file format. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the GI files is as follows:
GI is not a common file extension and includes various formats for various programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all GI files are associated with Sonic Global Image. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. Most of these files are 1 KB to 780 MB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. These files are attributed to image, and often include person-related information.
All other GI files (50%) have no consistent format. Often described as disc or disk. You can get all the details of your GI file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .gi file to analyze" above.

- To make sure that your GI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
