What is a GP4 file?

GP4 files mostly belong to Guitar Pro by Arobas Music. GP4 files are mainly used to store music tablature used by Guitar Pro version 4, a music composition software for creating guitar and bass tablature. The GP4 file contains music notation or scores saved in a format that is readable by most guitar tablature software. GP4 filename extension is also associated with bitonal (black and white) images stored in CALS raster image file format and encoding CCIT Group 4 lossless image compression. GP4 image files are mainly used to store and transmit fax documents.

How can I open a GP4 file?

You need a suitable software like Guitar Pro to open a GP4 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GP4 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GP4 file directly in the browser:. How to convert GP4 files to JPG, PDF, HTML, DOC, ...

Files with the GP4 extension are quite widely used. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 50% of all GP4 files belong to Guitar Pro v4 tablature. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are 4 KB to 48 KB in size, with a median of 23 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as FICHIER GUITAR PRO v4.06. These files can be linked to music, solo, guitar, world, shadows, love, pink, another, gimme, money, tokyo, white, bach, live, shut, song, tabs and time.
• 45% of all GP4 files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "srcdocid: " at the beginning. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. GP4 files can be up to 880 KB in size, but are often around 26 KB - 280 KB. The files contain the following words: srcdocid: NONE   dstdocid: NONE.
