What is a GVI file?

GVI files mostly belong to LabVIEW.

LabVIEW Graphical Source Code:

  • GVI files use an XML format to store LabVIEW code. These files hold the instructions for creating virtual instruments and are meant to be worked on with LabVIEW software. For more details, visit NI.
  • Google Video File
  • GVI files use the RIFF format. They act as containers for video data and are linked with Google Video Player. Opening these files requires a media player that supports RIFF-based video.
  • Encrypted Imaging File
  • GVI files are XML files that have been encrypted to protect imaging data. They are used with Given Imaging Endocapsule Software and related tools from Medtronic. More on this use case is available at Medtronic.
  • FilExt.com note: If you have a GVI file, check its content to know which category it belongs to. Use LabVIEW to work with graphical source files, compatible media players for video files, or the specific medical imaging software if the file is encrypted.

    How to open GVI files

You need a suitable software like LabVIEW to open a GVI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GVI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GVI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
