What is a GXF file?
GXF files mostly belong to VLC by VideoLAN. GXF filename extension is associated with video clips stored in a GFX (General Exchange Format) container. A GFX file contains audio, video, metadata, and timecode. The video stream of the file is compressed using MPEG, Motion JPEG (M-JPEG), or lossy video and uncompressed DV standards. GXF format is mainly used to exchange audiovisual content across television program storage systems. The MIME type for transferring GFX files over the Internet is application/gxf. GFX videos may be played with VLC. GXF filename extension is also associated with files containing font data used by General CADD, a 2D computer aided design software for Windows. General CADD requires a given GXF font be available in order to use that font in a CAD drawing. GXF filename extension is also used by the Grid eXchange Format for transferring gridded data between software systems. Gridded data in such GXF files are written as ASCII text.
How do you open GXF files?
You need a suitable software like VLC to open a GXF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
