What is an IMA file?

IMA files mostly belong to Nero by Nero. Files with IMA file extension are commonly associated with disk image files. Initially, this file extension was used for FAT12 floppy disk images created by Microsoft DOS but now it is associated with various bootable disk image or sector-by-sector disk image file types. These files help in creating a backup of data as an access process is faster for mounted images as compared to copied data.

  • Main Usage: The disk image stored in IMA files is raw and unformatted binary data that can be mounted easily by a variety of disk utility programs like EZB Systems UltraISO and MagicISO etc. The disk utility programs make the mounted data readable for computers. The IMA files store the data in the same order of in which it appears on the CD. These IMA files are typically created by disk utility tools like WinImage to read, write and edit disk images.
  • Associations:
    • The IMA file extension was also associated with IncrediMail by Perion Network. The IncrediMail Animation files used IMA file extension.

How can I open an IMA file?

Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IMA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IMA file directly in the browser:. IMA file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the IMA files looks like this:

The IMA extension is very commonly found and predominantly uses a uniform format. But the following two file formats are common:

All other IMA files (17%) have no uniform format, such as ImageMixer project.
