What is an IR file

IR files mostly belong to LIRC. This IR file may be one of several distinct types. Its use depends on its origin and content. Below are some common cases:

IR file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. A common filename is receiver2_1.ir. Files like these have the following tags: daikin, generic and sony.

The remaining 75% of all IR files are files with no common format, the following 13 formats exist: RAR, PDF, WordPerfect, ZIP, RIFF, UNA, FHrR, slir, class and AXIVIONIR. They are often associated with power, down, load, factory, aspire or petrel.
