What is an IWP file

IWP files mostly belong to IronCAD. IWP files are used by different programs to store project data, configuration, or game progress.
For example, one common use is as a IronCAD Workspace Package, where the file is a compressed container built with the ZIP format. This package holds design files, settings, and other assets that make up a workspace.
Other applications use the IWP extension too.

Inspection Files: Some IWP files are used by the InSpec 1 program and related metrology software. These are encoded in UTF-16 (LE) and store inspection data.

Game Data: Certain IWP files serve as persistent data files for games developed with Ren'Py. They save game progress and settings. Check the Ren'Py website for details.

Document and Template Files: Other variants function as WordPerfect documents, Adobe Dreamweaver webpages, or website project templates, including files created with IWPDraw, ID Works, or Website X5 software. Some versions use GZIP compression for things like window profile data.

How to open IWP files

You need a suitable software like IronCAD to open an IWP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. IWP file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. An IWP file includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in IWP files:

• 55% of all IWP files use the ZIP format, i.e. an IWP file contains several compressed files. The included 11 to 1000 files have file names such as users.json, \0\1.iwb, \2\1.iwb and \9\1.iwb. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. Most of these files are 4 KB to 9 MB in size. • 15% of all IWP files are based on the popular UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. IWP files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 18 KB - 390 KB. The keywords InSpec 1, Programs 1, Version 2, AngUnits DecDeg, Coord Car, Units Met and Units Eng are typical for these files.
