Opening a JAD File
The JAD file type is primarily associated with Java SDK.
What is a JAD file?
How can I open a JAD file?
You need a suitable software like Java SDK from Oracle to open a JAD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your JAD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a JAD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

JAD file format:
To find out what program is needed to open JAD files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the JAD files produces the following result:
The JAD file extension is rather rarely used and includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all JAD files are associated with Java Application Descriptor. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. JAD files can be up to 11 KB in size, but are often around 270 bytes - 2 KB. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as MIDlet-1, MIDlet-Name, MIDlet-Jar-Size, MIDlet-Jar-URL, MIDlet-Vendor, MIDlet-Version, http and icon. Such files sometimes refer to mini, facebook, imported, mobile and racing.
- 25% of all JAD files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "Manifest-Version:" at the beginning. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The file size is in the range of 320 bytes to 710 bytes. The files contain the following words: Manifest-Version: 1.0, MIDlet-1, MIDlet-Name, MIDlet-Vendor, icon, MicroEdition-Configuration: CLDC-1.0 and MIDlet-Version. Examples of file names are bounce2_ALL.jad. These files are attributed to ninja, avatar and bounce.
The remaining 20% of all JAD files are files with no common format. Often described as hollywood, wlwhats, studios, studio, sesen, auto or blog. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your JAD file!

a jad application descriptor is a special file format by Oracle and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with JAD files
- Associate the JAD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open application descriptors. Because only the current version supports the latest JAD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Oracle manufacturer website after an available Java SDK update.
- To make sure that your JAD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .JAD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
