Opening a JPC File
The JPC file type is primarily associated with JasPer / OpenJPEG.
What is a JPC file?
There are two approaches seen in these files:
How to open JPC files
You need a suitable software like JasPer / OpenJPEG to open a JPC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your JPC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a JPC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

JPC file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the JPC files looks like this:
JPC is seldom used as a file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all JPC files are associated with JPEG-2000 Code Stream bitmap. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 630 KB with most files being between 110 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following keywords are characteristic: @@HHPHHPHHPHHPHHP and Creator: JasPer Version 1.701.0. Such files are related to frad, belley and bourg.
- 15% of all JPC files start with the bytes 00 00 00 0C 6A 50 20 20 0D 0A 87 0A crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 72 KB to 4 MB. The files contain the following words: colr, ftypjp2, ihdr, jp2c, ,res, Yjp2h, resc and resd.
The remaining 45% of all JPC files are files with no common format, often, for example, JPG and JPAC. Tagged as pscene. You can get all the details of your JPC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .jpc file to view" above.

- Associate the JPC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compressed image files. Because only the current version supports the latest JPC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available JasPer / OpenJPEG update.
- To make sure that your JPC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .JPC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
