KAR file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the KAR files comes to the following conclusion:
The KAR file extension is rather rarely used and mainly uses a defined KAR format. The following file formats are most commonly found in KAR files:
- 65% of all KAR files are associated with Karaoke MIDI files, which internally utilize the well-known MIDI format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. KAR files can be up to 96 KB in size, but are often around 17 KB - 65 KB. The file type is very old but is also used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MThd, MTrk, Soft Karaoke and @KMIDI KARAOKE FILE. Such KAR files store data about dancing, abba and audio.
- 15% of all KAR files start with the magic bytes CAT , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 4 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: CAT, RIFF and ArCk. An example of a file name is JumpStartAcademyDyn.kar.
The remaining 20% of all KAR files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. ZIP. Files like these are sometimes linked to openhab. If you want to find out which format your KAR file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .kar file to view".
