- MKVToolNix
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. MKA files are often referred to as MKVToolNix audios because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Matroska (Audio Stream) by Matroska AssociationThe Matroska multimedia container formats were derived from a project called MCF, but differ from it significantly because it is based on EBML (Extensible Binary Meta Language), a binary derivative of XML. EBML enables future format extensibility, without breaking file support in old parsers. This is a container, not a CODEC. Get the parser from the Matroska site. MKA files are typical matroska files containing only audio information, but no video. These files may typically comprise a complete music album in one single file, where file chapters mark each song. In addition to that the file can have attachement like lyrics or cover JPEGs, or even show a Karaoke subtitle stream. This file format is classified as Audio. - Matroska by Matroska AssociationEncryption in Matroska is designed in a very generic style that allows people to implement whatever form of encryption is best for them. It is easily possible to use the encryption framework in Matroska as a type of DRM. Because the encryption occurs within the Block, it is possible to manipulate encrypted streams without decrypting them. The streams could potentially be copied, deleted, cut, appended, or any number of other possible editing techniques without ever decrypting them. This means that the data is more useful, without having to expose it, or go through the intensive process of decrypting. Encryption can also be layered within Matroska. This means that two completely different types of encryption can be used, requiring two seperate keys to be able to decrypt a stream. Encryption information is stored in the ContentEncodings section under the ContentEncryption element. The Mime types used with this association are: audio/x-matroska.
MKA file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the MKA files:
The MKA file extension is not found very often and is primarily used by a single program. The file formats most commonly found in MKA files are:
- 96% of all MKA files are Extensible Binary Meta Language / Matroska stream files, which are based on the MKV file format. MKV is short for Matroska Multimedia Container. It can hold an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or subtitle tracks in one file. It is a universal format for storing common multimedia content, like movies or TV shows. Matroska is similar to AVI, MP4, or ASF, but is entirely open in specification and consisting of open source software. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are often between 240 KB and 1 GB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: matroskaB. Such MKA files store data about music, audio, flac, english, truehd, bdrip, hindi, track, practice, inferno, kenshin, rurouni, dubbed, studio, kyoto, goki, live and raws.
The remaining 4% of all MKA files are files with no common format. The category is kbps, festival, reading, pilots, twenty, farsi, fate, hevc or star. If you want to find out which format your MKA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .mka file to play".

an mka container file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with MKA files
- Associate the MKA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open container files. Because only the current version supports the latest MKA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available MKVToolNix update.
- To make sure that your MKA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .MKA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
