All about MOM Files
The MOM file type is primarily associated with Mindomo.
What is a MOM file?
For many users, a MOM file is a Mindomo mind map archive. In this case the file is structured as a ZIP-compressed container that holds the nodes, links, images, and other data that form a mind map. You can open these files with the Mindomo application or, if needed, rename the file to .zip and view its contents with an archive tool. More details are available at the Mindomo website.
Another use is in Apple development. MOM files here are compiled Core Data models used by Xcode. These files are typically stored in a plist format and are created by NSKeyedArchiver. They serve as the data schema for apps and are not made for manual editing. More information can be found on the Apple Xcode page.

How to open MOM files
You need a suitable software like Mindomo to open a MOM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MOM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MOM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert MOM files:
- Mindomo
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. MOM files are often referred to as Mindomo compresseds because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- CDrom Runtime Database File
- SPEFO Stellar Spectra Analysis File
- Xcode (Compiled Core Data-based Data Model) by Apple Inc.Xcode is a tool to help to create Mac OS X applications by assisting in the migration of code from other languages.
MOM file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the MOM files:
The MOM extension is quite commonly used. The file itself is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in MOM files are:
- 70% of all MOM files are based on the zip format, the MOM file contains a number of compressed files. MOM files contain from 1 to 6 compressed files. Customary file names are Document.xml, changes.json, document.json, nodes.json and themes.json. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. A typical file size is 17 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. json and Document.xml. These files are attributed to organigram, organigrama, mapa, mind, mental, mindmap, prokaryotes, mapping, para and tree.
- 25% of all MOM files are based on the popular plist file format. A property list file is a structured text file that contains user's settings or macOS apps configuration. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. MOM files are between 1 KB and 24 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as bplist00, Troot, NSKeyedArchiver and X$versionY$archiverT$topX$objects. Files like these are sometimes connected to model, data, chat, notes, state and game.
All other MOM files (5%) have no consistent format, frequently e.g. XML and LIST. Often described as storage, database, location, note, core, oedatabase, cognitive, business, contacts, overview, protists, concept, deleted, planner, project, virtual, website, course, export, plants, system, arbol, local, mappa, store, table, cpea, flag, lyst or text. You can get all the details of your MOM file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .mom file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for MOM File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a mom data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with MOM files
- Associate the MOM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest MOM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Mindomo update.
- To make sure that your MOM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .MOM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
