What is a NAR file?

NAR files mostly belong to Counter-Strike Online by Nexon and Valve. A NAR file is an archive of video game assets used by Nexon video games such as Counter-Strike Online. The contents of a NAR file can range from audio clips, models, and textures to graphics used in the game. NAR is also the filename extension of a raw image captured by Nikon cameras. Capture NX-D can import and non-destructively process such images. Another type of NAR file is an archive of XML metadata and raster images created by the Smart Cam application on Nokia Lumia devices. This image archive is saved in ZIP format. Lumia devices have been discontinued.

How to open a NAR file

You need a suitable software like Counter-Strike Online to open a NAR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. • 85% of all NAR files use ZIP compression, so several files are compressed and saved in one NAR file. NAR files contain from 4 to 21 compressed files. File names are e.g. 1.jpg and content.xml. • 8% of all NAR files are associated with Nexon game archive. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 1 GB in size and range from 38 MB to 1 GB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as @yL?l, X`Pg and ~rO`z. The file name cstrike.nar or cstrike_na_en.nar is typical for these files. These files are often associated with dstrike.
