What is an NCS file?

NCS files mostly belong to Neverwinter Nights.

The NCS file may have multiple meanings. In its common use, it is a precompiled script for the Neverwinter Nights game engine. This script directs in-game events and functions and is run by the engine itself rather than by a general-purpose program.

How to open an NCS file

You need a suitable software like Neverwinter Nights to open an NCS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. NCS file format details:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the NCS files looks like this:

Files with the NCS extension are quite widely used. This file type mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in NCS files:

• 75% of all NCS files are associated with KOTOR compiled script. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 6 KB with most files being between 120 bytes and 77 KB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. NCS V1.0B. Such NCS files store data about core, talent, singletarget, script, modal, spiriteater, ability and generic.
• 7% of all NCS files start with the magic bytes WQW, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. NCS files are between 15 KB and 150 KB in size. The file name 3 Eye-s.ncs is characteristic of these files.

The remaining 18% of all NCS files are different files with different signatures, such as Neuralynx and USER. Tagged as session, user, fade, pedistal, additem, custom, master or spell.
