Opening an ODC File
The ODC file type is primarily associated with Excel.
What is an ODC file?
File structure: An ODC file is a Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) file that contains embedded sections of XML. The HTML inside the file is contains information about the data connection which the file itself represents. This information can be used to allow applications to quickly discover information about the data connection without the need to interpret data provider-specific data connection information. This information can be:
- Type of data connection
- General data provider that is used,
- Name of the catalog or table where the data resides
- Title for the document.
The HTML also provides structure so that a Web browser can display a simple rendering of information about the data connection. The XML in the file is used for specifying more information about the data connection. This information can be:
- A human-readable name
- Keywords
- A human-readable description.
Related associations: ODC can also refer to an "Oberon document" used by BlackBox Component Pascal for storing source files.
How to open an ODC file
You need a suitable software like Excel to open an ODC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ODC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ODC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ODC files:
- Excel by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ODC files are often referred to as Excel data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- OpenOffice Calc (chart file) by ApacheOpenOffice Calc spreadsheet application is now a part of the Apache Open Office suite and is developed for the management, analysis, and storage of data in tabular form. It runs under Linux, macOS, and Windows platforms. ODC file is used as a standard format for storing charts. It may contain the chart title, subtitle, footer, dimensions, plot area, axis information, data labels, data points, line graphs, bar charts, pie graphs, etc. ODC file is XML based file and is stored as compressed archive. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: User Guide, Support, Apache OpenOffice on Wikipedia, OpenOffice on Wikipedia
ODC file format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the ODC files produces the following result:
As a file extension, ODC isn't very common and includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 45% of all ODC files save the data in HTML file format. HTML is short for HyperText Markup Language. It is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are often between 190 bytes and 3 KB in size. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. The following keywords are characteristic: <head>, <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/x-ms-odc; charset=utf-8">, <html>, </head>, </html>, <meta name="ProgId" content="ODC.New">, <meta name="SourceType", <html xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office", xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> and <meta name=ProgId co. A common filename is -Connect to New Data Source.odc or -NewSQLServerConnection.odc. These files are often associated with query, dashboard, conectar, origen, datos, nuevo and sales.
- 40% of all ODC files belong to Oberon/F Document. These files contain text and words as well as binary data. The files are on average 6 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 68 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. CDOo, Containers.ModelDesc, Containers.ViewDesc, Documents.DocumentDesc, Documents.ModelDesc, Documents.StdDocumentDesc, Models.ModelDesc, Stores.StoreDesc and Views.ViewDesc. These files are often associated with chap, winbugs, model, chapter, project, manund, kobes, logit and code.
All other ODC files (15%) have different formats, frequently e.g. OpenDocument Chart document and PNTI. Often described as server, conexi, nueva or prod. You can get all the details of your ODC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .odc file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with ODC files
- Associate the ODC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open settings files. Because only the current version supports the latest ODC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Excel update.
- To make sure that your ODC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ODC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
