What is an OGM file?

OGM files mostly belong to VLC by VideoLAN. OGM is a video file format for embedding video streams into an OGG-based multimedia container file. A file with OGM filename extension contains one or more video/audio streams, subtitles, and metadata. OGM media containers may include lossy or lossless video and audio content. These videos are typically encoded with Dirac or Dala for lossy/lossless compression while Theora is only used for the lossy compression of OGM videos. Its audio data use FLAC or OggPCM lossless compression and Vorbis, Speex, and Opus codecs for lossy compression. OGM was developed to encode Ogg Vorbis audio and arbitrary video codecs into an OGG media container file. Internet media types for OGM include video/ogg, audio/ogg, and application/ogg. OGM filename extension is also associated with matrix data files created by Origin, a data analysis program. An OGM matrix data file contains one or more matrix sheets consisting of columns, rows, mathematical functions, and formatting information.

How to open an OGM file

You need a suitable software like VLC to open an OGM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OGM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OGM file directly in the browser:.
