All about P7B Files
The P7B file type is primarily associated with OpenSSL.
What is a P7B file
How to open P7B files
You need a suitable software like OpenSSL to open a P7B file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your P7B file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a P7B file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert P7B files:
- OpenSSL by OpenSSL Developers
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. P7B files are often referred to as OpenSSL web (source)s because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Certificate Manager (public key certificate) by MicrosoftCertificate Manager is the certificate management software in Windows operating system. It can process a P7B file containing a PKCS#7 public key certificate. This file format is classified as Web (source). Related links: pkcs7, PKCS 7, PKCS7: Cryptographic Message Syntax Standard
P7B file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the P7B files:
The P7B file extension is very common and is primarily used by a single program. The file formats most commonly found in P7B files are:
- 70% of all P7B files store the data in the certificate file format. A digital certificate is a unique, digitally signed document which authoritatively identifies the identity of an individual or organization. Using public key cryptography, its authenticity can be verified to ensure that the software or website you are using is legitimate. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The average file size is 2 KB with most files being between 770 bytes and 5 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. xmlns, anaf, declaratie, dgti, UTF-8, encoding and xml version. Some examples of file names are Perioada_raportare.p7b. These files can be linked to raportare, perioada, cert, certnew, certificate, compact, certs, opis and taxi.
- 20% of all P7B files start with the magic bytes -----BEGIN , which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 7 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 7 KB. The keywords -----BEGIN PKCS7---- are typical for these files. The file name gd-g2_iis_intermediates.p7b is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to intermediates, chain, star and bundle.
All other P7B files (10%) have no uniform format. Often described as trust, profile, taxiot, root, sign, winsipolicy, public, signed or prod. You can get all the details of your P7B file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .p7b file to analyze" above.

a p7b public key certificate is a special file format by OpenSSL Developers and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with P7B files
- Associate the P7B file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open public key certificates. Because only the current version supports the latest P7B file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the OpenSSL Developers manufacturer website after an available OpenSSL update.
- To make sure that your P7B file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .P7B file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
