Opening a PICT File
The PICT file type is primarily associated with QuickTime.
What is a PICT file
How to open PICT files
You need a suitable software like QuickTime from Apple to open a PICT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PICT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PICT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PICT file extension format:
To view or edit PICT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the PICT files is as follows:
The file type with the extension 'PICT' is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 85% of all PICT files belong to QuickDraw/PICT bitmap. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. PICT files can be up to 510 MB in size, but are often around 8 KB - 2 MB. The file type was primarily used more than 20 years ago. Files like these are sometimes connected to figure, wednt, launch, sample, screenshot, edges, picture, karklu, pasted, image, photo, logo and temp.
- 2% of all PICT files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "DRWGD2" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 2 KB and 23 KB in size. The keywords DRWGD2 are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: sorry, white and blue.
All other PICT files (13%) have no uniform format. Sometimes used for sorry, clipping, layout, white or blue. If you want to find out what your PICT file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

a pict image is a special file format by Apple and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PICT files
- Associate the PICT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open images. Because only the current version supports the latest PICT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apple manufacturer website after an available QuickTime update.
- To make sure that your PICT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PICT file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
