Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the PM5 files looks like this:
The PM5 file extension is quite common and is primarily used by a single program. The file formats most commonly found in PM5 files are:
- 95% of all PM5 files belong to Aldus PageMaker document. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are often between 47 KB and 4 MB in size. - 3% of all PM5 files start with the bytes File Version:pm5.0, which are crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. Most of these files are 18 KB to 40 KB in size. The files contain the following words: BASE, Build stamp, SmartCAMcnc, Windows, File Version:pm5.01e, Copyright and Production. Examples of file names are BOTTLE3.pm5.
