Opening a PQ File
The PQ file type is primarily associated with Apache Arrow.
What is a PQ file?
For many users, the most common usage is for the Parquet data format. In this case the file holds columnar data used by tools like Apache Arrow and Pandas DataFrame storage. You can learn more about this format at Apache Arrow.
Other uses include:
FilExt.com note: The same PQ extension can hide very different contexts, so checking metadata is key.
How to open a PQ file
You need a suitable software like Apache Arrow to open a PQ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PQ file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PQ file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PQ files:
- Apache Arrow
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PQ files are often referred to as Apache Arrow data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- PageMaker (Default Printer Style) by Adobe Systems Incorporated
- Progress QuestA Progress Quest save-file saves the state of your in-game character. The program also uses .PQ.BAK as a backup of its previous save file, in case anything goes wrong. This file format is classified as Game.
PQ file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the PQ files comes to the following conclusion:
The PQ file extension is not common and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in PQ files:
- 45% of all PQ files use the same file format, which have the signature PAR1. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 6 KB to 32 MB in size. The file type is very recent. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as PAR1.
- 15% of all PQ files start with the magic bytes let, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are often between 150 bytes and 3 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Source and Table.
All other PQ files (40%) have no consistent format, such as zlib, SQL and Source. Often described as pemptus, icon, table or data. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PQ file!
Technical Data for PQ File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

a pq data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PQ files
- Associate the PQ file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest PQ file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Apache Arrow update.
- To make sure that your PQ file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PQ file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
