What is a PRI file?

PRI files mostly belong to Visual Studio by Microsoft. A PRI file contains a binary index of all resources in a Windows application. Multilingual applications usually contain one PRI file per language supported by the application. The MakePRI.exe tool bundled with Visual Studio integrated development environment compiles application code and a PRI file to an executable. Another type of PRI file is an application project intended to be included as a component of another project created with Qt SDK. This file contains a list of sources, headers, and QRC/UI files to be included in a project. COREX uses a PRI file to store orthographic transcriptions of spoken Dutch language.

How to open PRI files

You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open a PRI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PRI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PRI file directly in the browser:. How to convert a PRI file to JPG, PDF, HTML, DOC, ...

1. To do so, click the "Choose your .pri file to view this image" button above.

PRI file extension format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The PRI extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 60% of all PRI files are Package Resource Index files. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 45 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The following keywords are characteristic: [mrm_decn_info], [mrm_pridescex], [mrm_hschemaex], [mrm_res_map2_], [mrm_dataitem] and mrm_pri2. The file name Resources.pri is typical for these files. Files like these are about windows, logon, shell, settings, components, merged, threshold, shutdown, blocked, search and cred.
• 4% of all PRI files use ZIP compression, multiple files are compressed and combined into one PRI file. Primarily one file is included. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 17 KB. The keywords priUT are typical for these files.
