PSP file format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the PSP files:
The PSP file extension is not found very often and is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in PSP files are:
- 50% of all PSP files are Paint Shop Pro Image files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 87 KB to 6 MB. The file type was used 20 years ago. The files contain the following words: Paint Shop Pro Image File. Files like these are sometimes connected to image, and usually contain person-related data.
- 5% of all PSP files internally utilize the JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. PSP files are between 1 KB and 26 KB in size. The files contain the following words: Height, Name, Width, Clips, Frames, Source, Type and Untitled.
All other PSP files (45%) have different formats, often, for example, ELF. Sometimes used for photoshop or prefs. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PSP file!

a psp multi-layer image is a special file format by Corel and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with PSP files
- Associate the PSP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open multi-layer images. Because only the current version supports the latest PSP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Corel manufacturer website after an available PaintShop update.
- To make sure that your PSP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .PSP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
