What is a PSX file
How do you open PSX files?
You need a suitable software like PlayStation to open a PSX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PSX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PSX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PSX files:
- PlayStation by Sony
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PSX files are often referred to as PlayStation games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Dirty Little Helper (chat data) by DLH DeveloperDirty Little Helper is an online platform that provides access to a database of game cheats and patches. Chat data used by Dirty Little Helper is saved in a PSX file. This file format is classified as Data.
PSX file format:
To view or edit PSX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the PSX files:
The PSX file ending includes different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in PSX files are:
- 30% of all PSX files are based on the zip format, so several files are combined and compressed into one PSX file. The 11 to 17 compressed files are called [Content_Types].xml, \_rels\, \Machine\ and \Project\. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. PSX files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 210 KB - 650 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0001000000FFFFFFFF010000000000000004010000000C53797374656D2E496E, Data and dat. Such files sometimes refer to parameter and pump.
- 25% of all PSX files are using the well-known XML file format to store the data. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 100 bytes to 100 bytes. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and <document version="1.2.0" path="{projectname}.files/project.zip"/>.
All other PSX files (45%) have different formats, often, for example, Playstation single game save, STv and PPTX. They are often associated with fovuptyxsa, highlights, savegame, fantasy or export. Just click the "Choose your .psx file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your PSX file is.
