All about QDF Files
The QDF file type is primarily associated with Quicken.
What is a QDF file?
- Implementation: QDF brings together SVG's structured and compact layouts, vector-based elements for the business logic layer, a structured data layer, a font-embedding system, and a storage system for included artifacts such as images. The storage system supports compression where possible.
- Main Usage: Mainly used by Quicken to store financial information such as account transactions, balances, portfolios, statements. Quicken, is a personal finance management program, initially developed by Quicken, which was formerly part of Intuit, but later sold to H.I.G in 2016.
- Adoption - eForms: QDF files are used to create interactive digital E-Forms, which are saved in vector-based formats that allow lossless scaling and zooming. They contain text, images, fonts, 2D vector graphics, tables, data fields, barcodes, and the intended content. They can be created and opened with SnapForm and SnapForm Viewer.
- Adoption - Label Design: QDF files are used in designing barcode labels to store barcode information by programs such as Label Matrix
How to open QDF files
You need a suitable software like Quicken to open a QDF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your QDF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a QDF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert QDF files:
- Quicken by Quicken
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. QDF files are often referred to as Quicken data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Label Matrix (label file) by TeklynxLabel Matrix is a barcode label software developed by Teklynx and designed for simple labeling. This software possesses built-in wizards to help with printer selection, database setup, and 2D barcodes configuring. It has over 100 built-in barcode symbologies and the ability to automatically generate date stamps. Label Matrix comes in two editions - PowerPro and QuickDraw. QDF file is a label that contains text, images, shapes, and barcodes. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Quick Start, Support
- QUADRO 3D (playset model data file) by QuadroQuadro 3D is design software for Windows that provides designing of playset constructions and helps to build them. A QDF - Quadro Design File contains 3D model data of playset construction. It can be downloaded from the model database on the Quadro website, and it is possible to create designs from scratch and save the QDF file for later editing. This file format is classified as Data. - Snapform Designer (electronic form document file) by RinglerSnapform Designer is a software developed by Ringler for creating interactive electronic forms from paper forms and PDF files. It is designed for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux platforms. QDF file is an XML-based electronic form document, similar to PDF, that contains data in a vector-based format that can be zoomed and printed without losing quality. It has two internal variants - QDF/A and QDF/S formats. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: Manual, FAQ
QDF file extension format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the QDF files:
QDF is one of the most common file extensions and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all QDF files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 57 KB to 160 KB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and <QDFA version="1.5.1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://www.snapform.com/open_format/snapform.xsd" xsi. A usual file name is 60_en.qdf. Such files sometimes refer to form, formular and swiss.
- 20% of all QDF files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known by the name OLE2 Compound Document Format or Composite Document File Format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. Compound files always start with the bytes ÐÏࡱá (hex code D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1). The file contains sections .QEL, .QDF, .QPH, .IDX and Attach. QDF files can be up to 350 MB in size, but are often around 920 KB - 45 MB. Files like these are sometimes connected to quicken, data, qdata, backup, accounts, checking, rentals and budget, and usually contain person-related data.
The remaining 50% of all QDF files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. Quicken data, BZ2, ZIP, PowerPro, Label, StrandWare and material. They are often associated with account, opening, bulk, label, public or dasi. Just click the "Choose your .qdf file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your QDF file is.

How to solve problems with QDF files
- Associate the QDF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open financial data files. Because only the current version supports the latest QDF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Quicken manufacturer website after an available Quicken update.
- To make sure that your QDF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .QDF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
