Opening an SNP File
The SNP file type is primarily associated with SQL Compare.
What is an SNP file
How to open SNP files
You need a suitable software like SQL Compare to open an SNP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SNP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SNP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SNP files:
- SQL Compare by Red Gate
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SNP files are often referred to as SQL Compare backups because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Access (report snapshot) by MicrosoftAccess is a relational database management system bundled with Office productivity software suite. Discontinued editions of Access saved a report snapshot in an SNP file. This file format is classified as Page Layout.
- Computer Eyes (video output) by Digital VisionComputer Eyes is a discontinued system driver software for Computer Eyes video digitizer cards. It saves video output in an SNP file. This file format is classified as Video.
- Defender (malware) by MicrosoftDefender is a system security software built into Windows operating system. It can detect and delete the fsnapa.snp and rsnapa.snp files used by W32/Nafbot-B malware. This file format is classified as Executable. Related links: Trojan:Win32/Mgbot.B, Sophos W32/Nafbot-B Writeup
- HTML Editor (snippet) by CoffeeCupHTML Editor is an integrated development environment for creating responsive web pages. It saves a snippet in an SNP file. This file format is classified as Developer.
- Library Reader (data) by IBMLibrary Reader is a discontinued e-book reader for IBMPC and older Windows platforms. It saves some data in an SNP file. This file format is classified as Data.
- Snapview (snapshot) by IBMSnapView is a discontinued software for creating point-in-time copies (snapshots) of a LUN within an IBM storage system. It saves a snapshot in an SNP file. This file format is classified as Backup.
SNP file format:
To find out what program is needed to open SNP files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the SNP files is as follows:
The SNP file extension is quite common and predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in SNP files are:
- 70% of all SNP files belong to Microsoft Access report Snapshot. The files are using the common file format CAP. CAP files are compressed archives. The first bytes (the signature) are 'MSCF' (short for MicroSoft Cabinet File). These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 5 KB to 140 KB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MSCF and _AccRpt_.snp. These files can be linked to report, invoice, review, statement, cvresults, slip and summary.
- 4% of all SNP files are based on the well-known JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 17 KB to 41 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. JFIF. Files like these are about ayebeebeewhyy and kungcajsa.
All the rest of the SNP files (26%) have different formats, often, for example, SQLCOMPARE. Files like these are sometimes linked to capture, snapshot or state. You can get all the details of your SNP file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .snp file to analyze" above.

an snp snapshot is a special file format by Red Gate and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with SNP files
- Associate the SNP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open snapshots. Because only the current version supports the latest SNP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Red Gate manufacturer website after an available SQL Compare update.
- To make sure that your SNP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SNP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
