All about SWD Files
The SWD file type is primarily associated with SWDE.
What is an SWD file
For example, some SWD files contain Polish spatial data that hold land registry information. These files are used in systems such as the Polish spatial data exchange and can be viewed with GIS tools; see GeoPortal for more details.
Other uses include:
FilExt.com notes: The actual content and structure of an SWD file depend on the originating application. To open and view an SWD file correctly, you must identify its source and use the matching software. Misidentification can lead to errors or misinterpreted data.
How can I open an SWD file?
You need a suitable software like SWDE to open an SWD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SWD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SWD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

SWD file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the SWD files looks like this:
The SWD file extension is rather rarely used and includes many different file formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all SWD files use the same file format, which have the signature SWD. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 45 KB to 5 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as SWDE.w.2.00.(C) GUGiK 2000;, dane, C; Data modu, Kontekst danych, u swde, 31 Tryb, Alters, C; Dane aktualne, C; Przedzia, czasowy: Brak and wymagany: 90:31.
- 15% of all SWD files are Flash file with debug info files. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 24 bytes to 150 KB in size, with a median of 70 KB. The keywords Name are typical for these files. Some examples of file names are RootMovie.swd.
The remaining 65% of all SWD files are different files with different signatures, the following 6 formats can be found: Storybook Weaver Deluxe for Windows Story and Settlers II map. These files are often connected to cursive. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your SWD file!

How to solve problems with SWD files
- Associate the SWD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SWD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SWDE update.
- To make sure that your SWD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SWD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
