All about UNI Files
The UNI file type is primarily associated with CardioExplorer.
What is a UNI file?
UNI files serve various specialized purposes. Their function depends on the software that created them and they are not meant for a universal viewer.
Some common uses include:
- ECG Data: Over half of these files store electrocardiogram recordings from CardioExplorer. They hold raw heart signal data for medical analysis.
- Unity Engine Data: A group of UNI files contains simulation data used with the Unity engine. These files are typically compressed with GZIP and hold text information. More details can be found at Unity.
- Game Music: Some versions encapsulate encoded game music used in game development, as noted by companies like UNIONFILES and Game Maker. Visit Extropia for further info.
- PCB Design: Certain UNI files are used for storing PCB manufacturing data. They serve as design containers often referred to as UniEDA.
- Game Unit Data: Files used with games such as Mount & Blade: Warband hold character descriptions and even 3D model containers. More about these can be seen at Mount & Blade: Warband.
- Language Translations: A set uses a UTF-16 (LE) encoding to store translation text for multilingual support.
- Trimble Layouts: In geospatial fields, some UNI files contain layout data in the Trimble Universal Format used by Trimble Business Center. Details are available at Trimble Business Center.
- Unisys Documents: In rare cases, the extension is used for TIFF formatted documents associated with Unisys.
FilExt.com note: If you have a UNI file, you should use the specific software that created it. This file is an internal data file and may require decompression or decoding (like GZIP or UTF-16) before viewing its content.
How to open UNI files
You need a suitable software like CardioExplorer to open a UNI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UNI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UNI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

- MikModMikmod is a module player and library supporting many formats, including mod, s3m, it, and xm. Originally a player for MS-DOS, MikMod has been ported to other platforms, such as Unix, Macintosh, BeOS, and Java. Modules created by different programs can have differing initial characters. For example, APlayer-created start with hex: 4150554E or ASCII: APUN MikCvt-created start with hex: 554E30 or ASCII: UN0 This file format is classified as Audio.
UNI file extension format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the UNI files produces the following result:
The UNI file type is a very commonly used file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in UNI files are:
- 45% of all UNI files start with the bytes FF FF crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 17 KB to 26 KB. It is a modern file type. The file name R-ECG_-_-_20180601_dd-mmm-yyyy.uni is typical for these files. Such UNI files store data about yyyy and recg.
- 7% of all UNI files are based on the well-known GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 93 bytes to 200 KB in size. The file name config_0001.uni or flags_0001.uni is characteristic of these files. These files are attributed to density.
All other UNI files (48%) have no consistent format, such as MikMod module, UTF-16 (LE), TIFF, INFO and HEADER. Files like these are sometimes linked to stat, peasant or knip. If you want to find out what your UNI file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with UNI files
- Associate the UNI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest UNI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available CardioExplorer update.
- To make sure that your UNI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .UNI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
