All about USF Files
The USF file type is primarily associated with MSI Afterburner.
What is a USF file
How can I open a USF file?
You need a suitable software like MSI Afterburner to open a USF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your USF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a USF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

USF format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the USF files looks like this:
USF is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for the applicable programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all USF files are EVGA Precision X skin files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 490 KB and 3 MB in size. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 0AZS and 0FSU. Default2.usf or MSILightningAnniversary.usf is a typical file name. These files are often associated with msiafterburner, theme, skin, dark, msilightning, anniversary, steampunked, msimystic and msitech.
- 15% of all USF files have the same signature /*================================================. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The average file size is 5 KB with most files being between 1 KB and 13 KB in size. The files contain the following words: /*==========, Epic Games, Inc, shader, All Rights Reserved, Copyright 1998-2011 and Copyright 1998-2011 Epic Games. Some examples of file names are BasePassPixelShader.usf or MemCopyShader.usf. Files like these are sometimes connected to shader, pixel, common, occlusion, ambient, base and pass.
All the rest of the USF files (55%) have different formats, frequently e.g. USF Ultra64 Sound Format rip, XML and Source. Files like these are sometimes linked to user, msicyborg, msidragon, msimodern, factory, process, vertex, blend, image or post. How to solve problems with USF files
- Associate the USF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest USF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available MSI Afterburner update.
- To make sure that your USF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .USF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
