Opening a WBS File
The WBS file type is primarily associated with WBS Schedule Pro.
What is a WBS file?
Some WBS files use the Microsoft Compound format. In this case, the file is designed as a website builder file, similar to a Microsoft Works Database, and is used with website builder applications. For more details on this variant, see this webpage.
A few WBS files are packaged in ZIP format. These are project management files that compress several files or data elements inside one archive, similar to how Microsoft Project schedule files are managed.

How can I open a WBS file?
You need a suitable software like WBS Schedule Pro to open a WBS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WBS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WBS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

WBS file format details:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the WBS files is as follows:
WBS is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type mainly uses a special format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 70% of all WBS files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 150 KB in size and range from 42 KB to 240 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: DefaultDurationUnits="days" DefaultWorkUnits="hours", HoursPerDay="8" HoursPerWeek="40", <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>, <project version="5">, <proj ListSeperator=",", <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <proj ListSeperator=";", <project> and DaysPerMonth="21.75" DefaultStartTime=. Such files are related to schedule, project, plan, implementacion and smart.
- 15% of all WBS files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also called Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The file contains several sections which are named like Contents. WBS files can be up to 8 MB in size, but are often around 13 KB - 950 KB. Such files sometimes refer to website.
All other WBS files (15%) have no consistent format. These files sometimes refer to site. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your WBS file!
