All about WPA Files
The WPA file type is primarily associated with Act!.
What is a WPA file?
How to open WPA files
You need a suitable software like Act! to open a WPA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WPA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WPA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert WPA files:
- Act! by Act!
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. WPA files are often referred to as Act! page layouts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Bash WiFi Connection Script (wireless connection credentials) by Bash WiFi Connection Script AuthorsA Bash script for automatically connecting to WiFi networks on headless computers use access point credentials saved in WPA files. This file format is classified as Simple text file.
- QBlade (turbine blade design/simulation) by D. MartenQBlade is an open source application used for wind turbine design and simulation for Windows and Linux operating system. It saves a turbine blade design/simulation project in a WPA file. This file format is classified as CAD.
WPA file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the WPA files produces the following result:
WPA is not a common file extension and includes different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 30% of all WPA files are associated with ACT! word processor document. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 7 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as WTCA. Files like these are sometimes connected to well, and have person-related content.
- 25% of all WPA files start with the magic bytes 26 00 00 00 00 00 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 28 KB with most files being between 7 KB and 1 MB in size. Files like these have the following tags: align, and often include person-related information.
All other WPA files (45%) have no uniform format. Files like these are sometimes linked to letter or nrel. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your WPA file!
Technical Data for WPA File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\ACT\actwp.wpi %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\ACT\ACT for Win 7\Act7.exe %1
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\Symantec\ACT\ACTWP.WPI
a wpa document is a special file format by Act! and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with WPA files
- Associate the WPA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open documents. Because only the current version supports the latest WPA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Act! manufacturer website after an available Act! update.
- To make sure that your WPA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .WPA file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
